Punta Cana

While fall in New England is beautiful, as the days grow shorter and the weather gets cooler, it's easy to long for summer again.  We migrated South this past week to the Dominican Republic to get our sun fix and attend the wedding of one of Chris' good friends from college.  The week in Punta Cana was fantastic, the weather was beautiful, and Carter swam his little heart out.  Grandma and Grandpa Nelson joined us to assist with entertaining Bear and we couldn't be more appreciative for their help!

The travel was a bit rough on our little toddler.  We put Carter in our bed to clean up and came back to find him like this:

The majority of the week was spent at the pool and the beach.  Carter mastered the puddle jumper life vest which allowed him to have lots of independence in the water.  He and Chris loaded up on the strawberry and banana smoothies to keep cool poolside.

We enjoyed an all inclusive stay at our resort which meant ice cream at every meal!  We usually went to lunch right after our pool time and I forgot clothes for Carter more often than not.  The blondie in the diaper at the buffet was a hit with the Dominican servers.

The wedding was beautiful and the weather couldn't have been better.  Thanks to Dan and Jill for including us in their big day.  Congrats!

Our last day in the DR we lounged until it was time to begin our journey back to Boston.  We loved that Carter's hair went back to its old curly self in the Dominican humidity.  Sadly it didn't last.  Once we hit Atlanta for our layover, his hair was straight again.

Family Photos 2012

Our good friend, Carolyn Moffat, took our family pictures this year.  She did such a great job--we love the photos!  We saved our favorite shots for our annual Christmas card, but here are some to share. To see more of Carolyn's work, visit her photography blog at http://cymoffat.blogspot.com/.

Trick-or-Treat

I could not have been more proud of Carter when we went trick-or-treating in Beacon Hill.  Little Bear literally pulled me up the hills to get to each house.  With his head down and his legs driving, no obstacle could stop him.  His determination to reach each door was clear, just like I remember mine was when I was a young trick-or-treater.  I'm not even sure Carter was aware of what he was getting as he reached his little hand into the treat basket at each door, but it didn't stop him from picking a shiny treat, putting it in his bag, and moving on to the next house.  That is, until we reached the house with dum dums.  Once Carter found this special treat, no other treat was acceptable.  We continued to go from door to door, but when Carter looked in the treat basket and found no dum dums, he turned his nose up and left the house empty handed.  I was a little embarrassed after this happened a few times, so we decided to call it a night and take a ride back home on Thomas the Train (the T).  We had a great Halloween this year and look forward to many more to come!

Halloween Party

This year we began our Halloween celebration at church with our ward party.  We enjoyed great food, a costume parade, and trick-or-treating through the classrooms of the church.  Carter had a blast eating cookies and candy and seeing his friends dressed up in costume.  The night was a highlight for all!

Pumpkin Carving Fun!

Carving pumpkins has become one of my favorite Halloween traditions. This year was especially fun as we enjoyed our annual carving party at the Parkers.  We came armed with all the right tools and we quickly realized the scooper's effectiveness could not be understated.  Carter and his buddy, McKenna, enjoyed the cider donuts and toys while the adults carved away.
