Happy Anniversary!

Chris and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary this past weekend in New Hampshire.  It was so nice to get away and enjoy the great weather and picturesque surroundings near the coastline.  We enjoyed the pool, the food, and the shopping!  Here's to many more fantastic years to come!

The Stats

Carter had his 4 month appointment last week and here are his growth stats:

Height: 26 inches
Weight: 17 pounds, 2 ounces
Head Circumference: 43 centimeters

He is BIG! At 4.5 months these are Chris' stats:

Height: 23.5 inches
Weight:  16 pounds, 2 ounces
Head Circumference: 45 centimeters

He has outgrown his dad already (except his head size!) We think he's quite the expressive little boy!

Cabo San Lucas 2011

A Nelson family tradition for the last 5 or 6 years has been an annual trip to Cabo San Lucas each summer.  It's a great get away with lots of sun and it's a relatively easy destination to travel to (especially when you live on the West Coast.)

This year we were so excited to join Julie's parents and brother and sister-in-law for a much needed escape and some R and R.  It was a relief to get out of the Boston humidity for a few days and get some down time by the pool and ocean.  However, upon our arrival we quickly realized that our New England skin was not so ready for the strength of the Mexican sun (especially the fairest of us all, baby Carter.)  Fortunately we had packed our 50+ SPF sunscreen so we were able to ward off the sunburn for the majority of the vacation.  We did such a good job in fact that on our last day in Cabo, several people asked if it was the first day of our trip because we were so pale still!

While there were many activities to take advantage of each day, what we enjoyed most about the trip was great food, lots of sleep, and time with family.  We also were excited to introduce Carter to two new firsts- his first swim and his first foreign country (and first stamp in his passport!)

Carter's Blessing

We had the opportunity to bless baby Carter on June 5, 2011.  It was a great experience for all of us and Chris did a wonderful job naming and blessing our baby boy.  Chris' folks came in from Albany, my parents from the Bay Area, and my brother and sister-in-law from Utah.  Here are some pictures from the day.

Miracle Baby

We recently survived a pretty traumatic event that reinforced how lucky we are to have such a special little boy.  On the evening of the 4th of July, Chris, Carter (in his stroller), and I were all hit by a car while we were crossing Mass Ave in a crosswalk.  The brunt of the impact was taken by the stroller so it was particularly scary and definitely the worst experience of my life.  Fortunately because Carter is so young still, he was strapped safely in his Graco car seat which was strapped to his BOB stroller and he came away from the accident without a scratch or bruise on his body.

This whole event made Chris and I reflect on the angels that are watching over us and watching over little Carter.  While we are still struggling through the event psychologically, physically we are doing well and are grateful that we can put the event behind us.  Most of all the accident made us pause and reflect on the many blessings in our lives and how fortunate we are.

 We love this little guy!

4th of July

The 4th is one of our favorite holidays and it's especially great to celebrate it in Boston. A long standing tradition (well a tradition of 3 years now) is going to a professional baseball game.  This year we continued the tradition by taking Carter to his first Red Sox game at Fenway Park.  He was such a trooper!  It was a pretty hot day but he was content to watch everyone around us and sleep on mom's lap.  We made it through 6 innings which far exceeded our expectations and we got home in time to watch the end of the game.

We spent the afternoon with good friends from church and enjoyed delicous pulled pork and other 4th of July type foods.  On our walk home from the BBQ we experienced a huge miracle and are recovering from a pretty tramatic experience (more details to come).  All in all we are so grateful for the blessings in our lives and for our healthy little boy.  Happy 4th to all!
