Where's your...?

Now that Carter is starting to recognize words, we've been trying to teach him the names of various body parts.  So far he's got a few down!

New Stats

Carter had his 9 month check-up and he's still growing like a weed!  Here are his new growth stats:

Height- 30 inches; 90th percentile
Weight- 21.5 pounds; 50th -75th percentile
Head Circumference- 18.5 inches; 90th percentile

This stage of life is truly amazing.  Carter is learning so much each day and is primarily driven to master new motor skills.  He continues to be especially chatty and spends his day clapping, pulling up to standing on furniture, and waving & smiling to everyone he sees.  He is very interested in clocks, both analog and digital, TV commercials advertising investing in gold, and wires/cords.  He recognizes a number of words like "tongue", "bath", and "clock" and responds to "no" by laughing hysterically.  This has made disciplining him especially entertaining!  Each day brings new excitement and challenges and we are grateful for everything our little guy is teaching us.

The Ultimate Gift

Chris' dreams came true this Christmas when "Santa" brought him the Lego Death Star.  It literally brought him to tears.  It has close to 4000 pieces and numerous scenes from Star Wars.  I've never seen Chris so excited to get out of bed in the morning because he couldn't wait to work on it.  I was sure he would spend the entire day putting it together after he opened it, but he paced himself and limited his construction each day to make it last a whopping 3 days.  I don't know if this gift will ever be topped!

Chris took many pictures to document this accomplishment, but I think this handful gives you a good idea of his hard work :)

Oh boy!

No obstacle will stop this little boy.  He has quite the independent spirit these days and as Chris says, takes after his mom and does what he wants!

Nelson Family Photoshoot

While in CA for the holidays, we had Nelson family pictures taken by Corinne McCombs at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley.  She did a great job!  Here's some to share:

9 Months Old!

Bicoastal Christmas 2011

This Christmas was a special one as we enjoyed the holiday with our little guy and celebrated from coast to coast.  We spent the days leading up to Christmas with the Kelletts in New York and enjoyed a chilly, cozy Christmas eve with family, delicious food, and lots of dogs!  Carter loved chasing the 4 pups around the house and was spoiled rotten with lots of presents from Nana and Grandpa Kellett.

We returned to Boston on Christmas day to prepare for our trip to the West Coast to celebrate with the Nelson clan in California.  We took a few shots of Carter in his Christmas pjs in front of the tree before getting packed up for the long trip.

The flight to the Bay Area was easy going and enjoyable primarily because we were unexpectedly upgraded to first class for the 7 hour flight.  Carter slept for a good portion of it and Chris walked the aisle to keep Carter entertained.  After the flight I actually thought to myself, flying with a baby isn't so bad after all.  Little did I know the return flight would be a different story.

First class, but hard to tell from the picture.  Only the best for Carter Bear!

The weather in California was amazing!  It didn't feel like Christmas outside, but I didn't mind too much because it was in the 60s & 70s and sunny!  We enjoyed our second Christmas celebration with Grandpa & Grandma Nelson and Uncle Ian & Aunt Liz.  Carter took the cake when it came to presents and he also discovered some new foods!  Surprise, surprise, he took quickly to ice cream, but he also gobbled down dozens of raspberries and lots of cheesy bread.  He also started cruising along the furniture and pulling himself up on everything!  We are excited and nervous about how mobile he has become.

We flew back to Boston and were fortunate to snag a whole row with high hopes our return flight would be as pain  free as our departure flight.  Carter enjoyed his seat for about 5 minutes and then he was determined to let us know he had no interest in sitting for the remainder of the flight.

Chris must have walked a few miles by the end of the flight going up and down and up and down the plane keeping Carter happy.  Finally the flight attendants noticed that Carter's head was bobbing and his eyes fluttering so Chris grabbed his seat for the descent at which point we sighed with relief that Carter had finally fallen asleep.

No sooner had we relaxed, when Carter's eyes opened 15 minutes later!  Chris and I looked at each other completely exasperated, but we tried to keep calm as we counted the minutes until we were on the ground. Fortunately we made it safely and are all recovered from our travels.  All in all it was definitely worth it to be with all of our family this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!  2011 was a great year for the Kellett household and we can't believe it has already come to an end.  Here are some of the highlights from our little guy's 2011:

  • Joining our family on April 5, 2011
  • First international trip to Cabo San Lucas
  • Having dad home for 4 months without any business travel after a year and a half of weekly trips
  • Traveling across 13 different states this summer to visit family and friends (CA, UT, AZ, CO, MN, IL, VA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, CT, & MA)
  • Santa bringing him two teeth the week of Christmas
  • Attending a wedding in upstate New York, a Red Sox's baseball game, and a BYU football game
  • Learning to be patient with mommy as she balances mommyhood and career pursuits

We wish you a happy 2012!  We're looking forward to seeing what the new year will bring!
