Week 1

Just a few updates on what's been going on during our first week with baby sister...

Daddy was thrilled to find Quinn sporting his alma mater when he came to bring us home from the hospital.

 Hanging out...

Striking poses for the camera!

These two are looking more and more alike to me each day.  When I saw Quinn sleeping like this, it really brought back memories from Carter's first few days.

Introducing Quinn Eliza Kellett

We waited...and now she is here!  Monday night Chris and I headed to the hospital for a 9 PM induction.  I had been having inconsistent contractions for weeks so I was excited to finally get my body into labor, but I was also a little nervous about how the induction would go.  We arrived on the labor floor and learned a room was not immediately available, but by 10 PM we were settled in and the nurse was getting my IV going.  My doctor was sure that Quinn was going to come quickly so we started chatting about whether she would be born before my nurse's shift ended at 11 PM.  I laughed and thought, wow, wouldn't that be crazy if you could really have a baby that fast.  Well little did I know, Quinn was coming just that way!

Heading to the hospital at 40+ weeks pregnant

While we waited for a room, we followed the Bruins game and enjoyed big sodas.  Who would have thought they would have had such an amazing come from behind victory???

The nurse started the pitocin to see if that would get things going, but I didn't feel any differently after 15 minutes so my doctor decided to break my water.  Based on my experience with Carter, I assumed that would really get things going, so I braced myself for immediate labor pains.  I was a little shocked as we sat in the labor room with my doctor and nurse and chatted and laughed for another 30 minutes without any change in how I was feeling.  Then just as my doctor left the room at about 11 PM, a fury of contractions was upon me.  I was dialted 4 cm when I arrived at the hospital so I knew I didn't have far to go and after a few minutes of really intense contractions with no space in between I knew it wouldn't be long before we would meet our baby girl.

I had a fast acting epidural that essentially numbed me up for 20-30 minutes.  I felt awesome through the worst of the contractions and then just as we all were chatting and laughing again, I could tell it was time to push.  The doctor looked at the clock- 11:45 PM.  She asked me, do you want this baby to be born today or tomorrow?  I thought to myself, what are we waiting for?  At around 11:56 after the doctor and nurse suited up, I started to push.

Numb and feeling great after the epidural

It took 8-10 minutes to get her out, and before I knew it she was on my chest.  The whole experience went true to textbook and the experience was even better than I could have planned.  Quinn Eliza Kellett joined us on 5/14/13 at 12:06 AM weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 19 inches long.  She is adorable and tiny with light brown hair and big cheeks!  We are in love already.

We were thrilled to introduce Carter to his new sister.  He handled it really well! He was very sweet to her and kept calling her "Ellie" because his only interaction with a baby has been with Ian's baby girl, Ellie.  Mostly Carter was just thrilled that Quinn brought him some new Thomas trains!  What an awesome sister!

This last picture documents probably the most awesome moment of our experience so far.  Just as Carter was leaning in to see Baby Quinn, she stuck her tongue out at him and started moving it back and forth as to say, ha ha, mommy's mine!  How perfect-- little sister is already showing us who's boss!  We are so thrilled to have this little lady join our family!

Baby Girl

Another due date has come and gone.  Baby girl was due to join us yesterday, May 9th, but she is still comfy inside mommy.  Just like her big brother, she will likely have to be forced out from her current home! I'm scheduled to be induced Monday night, but we would be happy to welcome baby girl earlier if she would like!
